I suppose I should introduce myself again, since all the cool kids are doing it. I'm Carly, or Red, depending on who I'm talking to. XD I have been doing NaNo since '03, and have reached the 50k goal every year since except for '03 and '09. This will be my eighth win. Woo! Losing is not an option, nuh uh. I don't care how much my job stresses me out and exhausts me. XD

The last few years I've been working on a trilogy. I've finished the first drafts of books one and two during NaNo events, and planned to write book three this year. However, my inability to figure out how book three is going to go had led me to decide to take a break and write something completely different. I have no idea what it's going to be about, other than who my three main characters are, and that one of them somehow released some huge, gnarly evil into the world. He still won't tell me if he did it on purpose, or if it was an accident. >->

I might give it a whirl and all. Even though writing a book can be goddam rough, it might be good to get this off my chest. It's like a wooden carousel horse with glass eyes on my chest and all. Even though it's corny as hell, I don't mind writing so much if there are others with me.

It's weird that way, I mean, writing with other people. Sometimes i feel like I'm going to croak. Just keel over and call the funeral home to come and stick me in the dirt and be done with it. That's how much I hate writing.

But, just when I get this feeling, people start asking me about Nanowrimo. They don't ask me directly. Have you ever noticed that when someone wants to know if you're going to do something, they would rather just sit around and look at you and beat around the bush. In their minds, though, it's obvious all they really want to ask is if you are doing Nanowrimo this year. They're phony as hell that way.

I mean, a guy could try to bum a fag from you, and next thing you know, he's asking about doing this crazy writing deal where all you'd want to do everyday, day in and day out, is catch other writers before they write themselves silly and begin chasing one another over some crazy cliff. And all I'd do, everyday, is sit there and catch them before they fall over the edge.

Yep, that's all I'd ever want to be, a catcher of Nanowrimo, and catch the young ones before they fall.

Howdy do! I'm Ky, who has a Cat named Scrap (i.e. scrapacat). This is my 3rd NaNo, and many of you know how wacky I truly am. I'm giving Naperville an annex to East Texas where I now reside.

I write so many things, so many genres, even flash fiction. I'm a pantser, usually. This year, I'm going to be working on a young adult story that might attract adults as well. It involves a rabbit, and some faerie magic on suicide missions. Yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I encourage everyone to make use of the BEST resources and MLs of any region, anywhere. I will be participating virtually, so if you ever need a word war, I'll be available on Jabber. Ask Tim to set you up if you don't have a *free* account yet.

Happy pecking!

Hello Everyone!

Wow, it's been a year already? But, I'm still revising my first novel, it can't be ...
No matter, November words beckon and I heed the call. I'm back with my purple macBook and my wordcount of doom.

This year I've decided to rebel a little and write 50k words on the novel I started this June. I only got 20k into it before being sucked into another bout of revision, but I love the story and don't really want to start something new until I finish this one. (I will only count the words I write in November, of course.) It's Book One of the trilogy I started last year, and if you're wondering how I can write Book One again, so am I. Turns out last year's book was Book Two but I didn't figure that out until after I finished it.

Yeah, just when I thought I knew what I was doing.

I hope to see a lot of you at the write-ins. Let's kick some NaNoWriMo butt this year!

Jump, and you will find out how to unfold your wings as you fall. ~Ray Bradbury

Hello!

I'm Huma. This is my very first NaNoWriMo, and I'm kind of excited to try it out. I'm fairly confident I'll be able to finish - I've been writing novels on my own since high school. (They all suck. :P Haha.) I love that there are regional forums for participants to get to know each other! If anyone lives near Washington/Ogden, anywhere close to that area, and wants to meet up at a Starbucks or Caribou or Nicholls or something, I'm totally on board! :D

I look forward to getting to know you guys better during this process, and good luck to everyone!

Hi, it's Mackenzie again, NaNoing since 2006, and I have an absolutely atrocious success rate, and an attendance rate at the write-ins and pre-NaNo events of zero. Will this year finally be the year that changes? XD

ethancherry

Hey! I'm Ethan, and I think I'm going to give this another shot... Last year's attempt did not turn out to well for various reasons: started late, scarcely outlined, ended up resenting my plot. This year, though, I have some time to prepare and get excited about an idea that I will hopefully persist throughout the whole month; would love to actually "win"!

Hi! I'm D. This is my first official Nano--my current WIP is 50K shy of finished, so this is my blatant push to knock it out. The Write-Ins sounds like fun! Hinsdale doesn't seem to have local writer groups, at least not any that I can find, so I'm looking forward to making some local connections. My keyboard runs on fantasy filled musings, and opens the gateway to a post-apocalytal world filled with magic and mayhem. :) Wishing everyone here the best of luck, and unlimited imagination.

Hey everyone, I'm Brittany. I'm 25 and living in the Lisle region, but spend a good amount of time in Naperville as well.

This is my first year doing NaNo (which I found out about through the blogging community) so I'm not really sure how we'll it's going to go! I've always wanted to write a book but usually I end up writing one chapter with zero plan and then I don't know where to take it from there. I'm hoping NaNo will help me plan and outline my story since this is something I haven't really had the focus for or the tools for in the past. I need some more organization to help me know what I'm really writing about and this seems like the perfect place to start!

Hi! My name is Tim P. I am back for a 5th year. I have hit 50K each year and now have 4 rough drafts that I have not had succuss moving much past that stage. Last week I went to an event with the author Erin Morgenstern who wrote The Night Circus. She said that she wrote her rough draft for that novel over the course of several NaNos before she really had a feeling for the direction the final novel would take. I am taking that as my inspiration this year and going back to my first NaNo Novel, the one I had on my mind for a couple of decades before ever attempting to write it. I have always been a pantser and have never outlined but this year I reverse outlined my draft and added in a ton of scenes and story lines and ideas that I am going to explore during NaNo this year. I'm hopeful that if I spend another 50K with my characters they will finally let me know how they want me to tell their story. This may be cheating a little but 50K in a month is 50K in a month right (plus I notice from above that I am not the only one adding to something already started). I am thinking of it as a sequel but instead of coming after the original it is interspersed throughout the original.

In 'real life' I am a Civil Engineer, husband to a wonderfully supportive wife, father to a fouth grade boy and triplet kindergarten girls, so finding time to committ to NaNo is always a challenge but a very exciting and fulfilling one.

I hope to get to a few events this year and look forward to another NaNo challenge with everyone.

Hi all. I'm Josh and this is my first time doing NaNo. (I signed up last year but didn't get to do it... really hoping to this year!). I'm from Frankfort, but as I couldn't find a region for the south suburbs, I joined this one.

I'm a fan of science fiction, and while I hate (okay, I don't hate it!) to stick to that genre, that's the direction I'm going with my plans and character outlines so far.

Hallo, all. I'm Squiddish! Squiddy... Squiddly. Squid. Squidster. You get the idea. I've been around for awhile now... and I would just like to say I abhor introductions.

I won NaNo last year with like... 80k... or more. Almost 90k? I don't know. But I won! Whooo. Fun stuff.
This year, I have no idea if I'll finish but I'll give it a go.

I like challenge. Or, rather, I like winning. So word wars? My cup of tea. (But only 10 minute ones. None of this 17 minute stuff, /Tim/.)

I'm OCD.

... I like Squids?

Sup. ;D

I'm pretty sure this is the region for the south suburbs, :) I read that it's for south and west suburbia of Chicago, so you're in the right place.

domitius

Hello, Tim. My name is Patrick, aka Domitius, and I am new to the group. I first found out about National Novel Writing Month last fall when I saw a novel sitting on a table in the lounge of my department and learned that one of the Classical archaeology doctoral students had written it (I suppose when she should have been writing her dissertation). Just this week I remembered that and Google led me to NaNoWriMo. I have had a novel in my head the last few years but never put so much as a word down on paper. Since I am now an independent scholar (i.e. an unemployed one), I thought I would give this a shot. I have been doing alot of writing recently, but this has been mostly translation of Byzantine Greek poetry and finishing up a commentary on a Greek treatise for college students (to be published next year). I have not written any prose fiction since I joined a literary club in college (where some of my juvenalia pieces met an unfortunate reception), but I have been writing Latin elegiac poetry in imitation of Ovid for the past two months, mostly to relieve some of the stress of unemployment (and the stress of applying for tenure-track jobs in Classics for yet another year). I regret missing the first two sessions in Naperville, but I will make the third one this Saturday. I look forward to meeting you and the other members of the group.

Hi, nanosue,
You can always try the Adoption Society forum here on nanowrimo--it is chock-full of novel elements (like plots) that you can peruse and choose to adopt and modify for your own novel. I also find that mindmaps (using XMind can be helpful for brainstorming and organizing.

Hi all!
This is my first time participating in NaNo and I am on pins and needles waiting for November 1st.
I have been busy plotting and doing several character studies to get a better feel for where I am going with my story. I haven't written a thing (other than work emails. ha) for about 7 years so I'm a bit nervous.
The story I will be developing during NaNo will fall under the romance category. I have a couple twists in my head and actually know how I want my story to end. However, the ending of this book isn't the end for these characters and I already have another forming for these people. (I never would have thought I could get so wrapped up with people I'm making up.)

I have a question on write ins. I'm pretty far from everything scheduled and wondered if anyone knows anything out towards Morris or Tinley Park. (Yes I realize those aren't exactly close to each other either. I work in one place and live in the other.)

I'm really excited to get to work on my story and to hopefully meet up with some of you at some point. Good Luck everyone.

Yay, local WriMo's!

:) I'm Katya, and I'm a senior at NCC. I found out about nanowrimo last year, and that was the first year I tried to do it. Haha silly me thought I could just wing it in November (with all the projects and the finals!). So this year, I've been outlining, planning, working on character development, and overall I can't wait to try again!

We don't have anything planned out that way; but I encourage you to post a new thread in the forum to see if there are people interested in organizing an informal write-in with you at a coffee shop or library. In fact, speaking of libraries, we haven't contacted all of the area libraries--you might want to check the ones around Morris or Tinley Park to see if they have any NaNo events planned. If they do, let us know and we will add them to our calendar.

Thanks; and good luck!
