:O Brittany! Haha, fancy meeting you here! Things are good - no complaints. I hope you're doing well, too! Good luck to you as well. :)

Hi everyone! I'm Jen.

I moved here a couple months ago from upstate NY, though I'm a west coast native. I live with my wonderful husband and fluffball rescue mutt. It sure would be great to NaNo up a storm - and make some new friends in the process.

I've participated three times before, finally winning on that last one. I have had bits and pieces of this year's story in a notebook all the way back to March 1, 2007 (hooray for dating entries). Time to get moving!

My foremost challenge is structure. I struggle with outlining fiction, and I often find myself in a jam even when I had been following an outline. I am going to try to do the ol' 3x5 card trick for the remainder of October to see if it can help me. NewMexicoTim seems to like it, so I'll give it a try!

Any Francophiles here? Just figured it's always worth asking! :)

Hi all, my name is Lee, aka paladinlee. First NaNoWriMo. I have always been the creative-type, though writing is not my forte. I mostly dabble in music, acting, and a little bit of drawing.

Recent ventures in tabletop role-playing games with some friends has my mind racing with ideas just waiting to meet paper. After some cajoling, I finally signed up this year with some friends who have already been through NaNo before. Surprisingly, my gamer calendar is clear and I will have some time off from work in November. So, NaNoWriMo, bring it on!

I have a question on write ins. I'm pretty far from everything scheduled and wondered if anyone knows anything out towards Morris or Tinley Park. (Yes I realize those aren't exactly close to each other either. I work in one place and live in the other.)

I'm really excited to get to work on my story and to hopefully meet up with some of you at some point. Good Luck everyone.

I am in your neck of the woods as well. Though, this is my first NaNoWriMo and I have no idea what a write-in entails.

Write-ins are events where people bring their laptop (and/or pen and paper--we've had a few brave souls who hand-write their novels) and together in the room, they work individually on their novels. It is a way to gain support from the community as you are pursuing your own word count goals.

We typically have word wars or word sprint competitions to see who can write the most words on their novel within a 13 or 17 minute period. I will be giving away some nanobot prizes at the Nichols and 95th Street Library write-ins.

We will also be having some jabber chat online write-ins (in November, there are usually people hanging out there almost every day/night).

Hi everyone! I'm Sharon and I am back for my second Nano. I started writing last fall and I CAN'T stop! Last year I wrote about 35K words in November, but kept at it and finished my 97K novel in January. Then I wrote the sequel. And for this Nano, I'll be on Book 3. Am I ready? No! But I'll get there! Hope to see some of you at write-ins!

Hello everyone! I'm Chrissie, and this is my second year doing NANOWRIMO. I'm hoping to beat my word count from last year (somewhere around 65 000) and I'm really hoping to get to more of the write-ins and get to know people better this year. I'm a junior in high school, so actually finding time in my schedule to write and get into the write-ins is difficult, but I'll make it work, because NANOWRIMO is the best part of the year!

Thanks guys!

Hi, I'm Paige. This is my third year doing NaNo. The last two years I've met my 50k goal and I'm hoping to do the same this year. Luckily I have an idea for my story, I've done some research, and I'm ready to start writing. Now I just need to stock up on coffee and I'll raid my kid's Halloween candy when the time comes so I'll be all set.

I'm not sure if I'll make it to any write-ins this year. I've got a lot going on this year. I hope I can get to at least one write-in because they help me so much with my word count. :)

STEEEEEVE!!!!!

Glad your back man! Now, I have to get out my thesaurus and Interpretive imagery and the logic (or lack thereof) behind it, and parse out your post. Are you in 100%, 50,000 words, sleepless nights, and far too much coffee and alienated family members, or are you keeping your Get out of Nano free card in your hip pocket? Writers gotta write and the curious gotta ask.

Im not sure what my writing schedule is going to be like during the month. As is my usual, I seem to be busier each November than the previous year, but Ill try like mad to support you on your quest to 50K cause I know youll do the same!

Tomster Here.

This will be my fifth NaNo and the one Im most nervous about. I barely eeked out a story last year, and it is so bad, it will never see the light of day. This year, I have high ambitions to write a draft that I can be proud of. Ive done more pre-planning this year than ever. The good news is Im willing to abandon the plot whenever my characters ask to go places Ive not thought of.

One thing for sure is I doubt I'd write one paragraph without this community. Nano, and Naperwrimos in particular are the best, most supportive bunch Ive ever met. Im looking forward to a month of commiseration, inspiration, dedication and celebration with all of you this November!

Holy CRAP! 9 days to go!!

Hi All! I'm Lori and this is NaNo Number One. I have never - ever - even with the bajillions of corporate deadlines - written on an intense prolonged schedule for a single project of this scope. It's exciting to start a new practice and just let it loose. I'm curious to witness my reactions as this goes on. That's the side part of this party - the NaNo journal. You are all so interesting and inspiring and that's just from the intro's. November!

TOOOMM! Yeah, man, I'm back. Back in the New York...er, Naperville groove. I sat out last year because I'm lame.

But this year, armed with a novel idea called "Bed Pig" that is a story about a guy who's, well, a real bed pig, I'm in. Wicked in!

Listen, I know you're a major cheese and all, giving plotting lectures and such (man, I would have loved to have been there to make funny sounds with my armpit just when you were trying to make a point), but I'd love to support one another if you can stoop to my level. I'm going to shoot you an email Nanomail and, seriously, right around Thanksgiving, if I haven't used my "get out of Nano free card" yet, let's do an all day--and I mean all freakin' day, something like ten hours--sprint to the finish. No kidding.

Tom, you and the Naperville crew (the MLs are the best in the business--and I think they do it for free!) are the bee's knees, let me tell ya.-- Steve

Since I doubt that you drive from Tinley Park to work in Morris, I must assume that it is the other way around. I know for a fact that the Morris Public Library posted NaNo signs last year, but I haven't checked yet this year. They don't make a big deal about it, just check the bulletin board above the photocopiers.

Warm welcome to the region and I wish you success this year.

Hi all, Tyrannosaurus Regina back for the seventh time to lurk on the forum and soak up the greatness that is this region's MLs. Work insanity does not allow time for attending meet ups, but if Tim is doing his graph again this year, I am *in*. (hint, hint)

I wish you all the best in November.

I love the idea of a "sprint to the finish" meetup. :)

Do not be satisfied with the stories that come before you. Unfold your own myth. Rumi

There will indeed be graphs again this year (still have to update the code, but, hey, there's still a week, right?).

Thanks, Regina!

How about sprint at the beginning? I'm going to be in Naperville from 3-8 on November 1st.
And the tasty trio (ThePiratess, CableShaft and Squiddish -- I called them seasoned coffee-shop writers, and Squiddish equated it to being tasty) have scheduled Sunday evening write-ins in Wheaton from 5-10 every week.

These write-ins are all longer than the drive. :)

Steve,

I'm still "Negotiating" with the non-writer in the home to see where we're celebrating Thanksgiving this year. If it's in the central time zone, I plan on all day marathons the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. Preferably where rocket fuel is served by the liter and lite jazz is irritatingly piped in overhead. Nothing like wanting to strangle a barista to make the bad music stop as motivation to write 3K a day, now is there?

Hi guys!

I'm Becky, AKA Sapphire (call me whichever you remember--I respond to both!). This year marks my 9th NaNoWriMo after missing a year somewhere in the middle there. I'm going to be writing again, this time with a novel called The Artist and the King. I've got the first few days in November off, so I'm hoping to get off to a strong start!

Joe (Corrupted Flame) and I will be hosting write-ins at the Caribou Coffee on Main St. in Downers Grove on Mondays in November! Time allowing, I'll have some prizes for Word War winners!

Katherine, would I love to be there. I dig five plus hours of writing (I was at my local library, alone, for six the other day. Then my butt got wicked numb). Unfortunately, I'm not in town that particular weekend. Ugh! Sounds ideal. Thank you.

Tom, you have a way with words. Rocket fuel. Strangle a barista. You slay me. Now, as to each of the two days after Thanksgiving, cranking out 3k words at a whack, sounds delish. Dedaragan and I'm sure many others would be down with the sickness, too. I am in town, and the non-writer in my household has already given me the "get your slothy backside into a library or coffeeshop!" So, have jazz, will travel. I'm sure we could hit a mid-point, like Schaumburg library, which is open the day after Thanksgiving from 10AM to 9PM. http://schaumburglibrary.org/about/ Can you say, "writer's with bedsores".

I'm pretty flexible with locations to meet. and my new Toyota is legions more dependable than my GMC pickup that, literally, pooped the bed right there on Route 59 in Naperville in the intersection in from of Guitar Center.

Cheers, all!
