I find October to be a good month for reading anything and everything--unlike November when I tend to reread favorites so they don't distract me from my writing.
Right now I'm in the middle of 'The Middlesteins' by Jami Attenberg and have started 'Brothers Emanuel' by Ezekiel J. Emanuel, and the occasional short story from 'Girl with Curious Hair' by David Foster Wallace.
I'm listening to the original broadway recording from "Next to Normal."
And I'm watching a freaky show about clones called 'Orphan Black.'
I'm reading a couple things. A re-read of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (I'm reading 1 book a month to prepare for the book 8 release in March, I'm also reading Elenore and Park by Rainbow Rowell. Soon I will be re-reading Divergent and Insurgent by Veronica Roth because the final book in the trilogy is coming out Oct 22nd!!!!
I'm listening to ... another book. Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness (2nd in the Discovery of Witches trilogy).
I have been watching the heck out of How I Met Your Mother. I just started watching it a few months ago and just catch it whenever it is on. I need to start from the begining of the series.
I am working really hard to finish the second Game of Thrones book before November 1st. It is enromous and I know once November hits my reading time wil lbe taken. Other than that it is reading stuff for work (student papers, etc.).
I am watching movies that look really engaging. I just watched Hero, the Chinese movie about an assassin trying to kill and emperor. I just started Prometheus last night. That looks promising and interesting to me.
As for what I am listening to, it is all podcasts right now. I am really in to The Moth, TED readio hour, and Radio Lab. These give me great ideas and stir my brain. I love it. Other podcasts more related to writing are I Should Be Writing, Dead Robots Society, and Write the Book.
Get your free living in now people. November is just around the corner and then we will all be cranking out the words at a frantic pace. I can't wait!
I'm reading the new Salinger bio and loving every second of it, as well as my usual October read "The Turn Of The Screw".
As for listening, I just posted a new episode of my podcast last night (shameless plug!!) with the first 16 songs of my annual NaNo Playlist. When I compile the whole thing I'll make it a public playlist on Spotify. Here's the link to said podcast:
Currently I'm readingMan in the Empty Suitby Sean Ferrell, which is about a man who can time travel and every year returns to the same place, resulting in a party of versions of himself aged 20-70, the only thing is: the 40-year-old version is murdered...but the 41-year-old version is alive, and it's up to the 39-year-old to figure out what happens before he's killed. This kind of time travel normally drives me crazy and I'm not too happy with it here, but I'm interested in seeing how it all plays out.
I'm also listening to the audiobook version ofLook Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger'sby John Elder Robison.
The shows I'm watching are Parks and Rec, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, How I Met Your Mother, and New Girl, among others, and I'm trying to catch up on Skins (almost done with season 2 of gen 3).
I haven't listened to much music lately, as I've started to lean more towards audiobooks, but Imagine Dragon's "Radioactive" has influenced my NaNo idea this year and pushed it in a different direction than originally planned.

So much that I'm very, very annoyed they haven't made the second season yet.
Yes, phenomenal acting by Tatiana Maslany, and a great thing to study for how posture and word choice and mannerisms make a character different.

I read that recently.
That story reminds me a little of The Man Who Folded Himself, by David Gerrold (read this many, many years ago).
I'm currently re-reading the Lyonesse trilogy by SF&F grand master Jack Vance. I'm in the midst of The Green Pearl, the second book. One of my favorites.
Right now I'm readingThe Glass Books of the Dream Eaters, Volume 2.The first volume was great and I was hoping to finish both volumes before November, but it doesn't look like I will. I've got some easier, lighter books lined up to read during the month of November. I can't give up reading entirely, but I need to read less taxing things while trying to write like a madwoman.
As for shows...I'm watchingBuffy the Vampire Slayerfor the first time with my brother and we just started season 7! I've also startedThe West Wingfor the first time since it's on Netflix -- I'm really enjoying it so far. Other than those, I've gotParks and Recon Thursdays and I'm trying outAgents of SHIELD.

I'm not a Twighlight superfan and I'm not writing about vampires, but the soundtrack to Breaking Dawn puts me in a writing groove.

David Gerrold (born January 24, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois[1][2][3]) is an American science fiction screenwriter and novelist known for his script for the popular original Star Trek episode "The Trouble With Tribbles", and for creating the Sleestak race on the TV series Land of the Lost,[4]

Oh, Orphan Black is amazing! I agree with Jez about Tatiana Maslany's acting abilities -- each clone is so distinctive!

Now that NaNo has started, I'm not reading anything that might put plot ideas into my head when I don't have the chance to write them down!
