We started a new exercise at the Woodridge and Naperville Public Library write-ins that some have found fun and helpful. I call it Feed the Creative Fire. The way it works is that participants jot down on a "fireball" (which I've shaped as a strip of red paper stapled onto a crumpled ball of newspaper) a one sentence description of something you are hoping to write; e.g., a milestone or incident or event in your story. When you finish writing that event in your novel, you can say "Huzzah!" and throw your fireball (which, if you craft it right, spins neatly like a helicopter seed).
It occurred to me that this could be useful to do even virtually in the forums. Post in this thread the milestone you want to reach (e.g., for me it is: Thea reveals to Chase that she is his sister). Then, when you reach your milestone, post your "Huzzah!" and perhaps a snippet including the milestone you reached!
You can then bask in the virtual applause of your fellow wrimos.
Well, I can kick this off. The milestone I was trying to reach, which I finally wrote last night, was to have Marlene tell Jackson that she had Gemma had dated in the past, trying to convince him that Gemma was a lesbian and could never be interested in him.
My next milestone is that Jackson has a fantastically horrible cooking mishap.
My goal for today was to assassinate an emperor (rather, for one of my characters to). Two thousand-some words later, and the emperor is dead, and the palace has been set aflame.
Huzzah!
Now, to get the assassin safely home again... or not?

Barry and I were both tempted to kill off our MCs after reading this. But thought better of it. Darn. That might have been interesting.
I am wondering if I can kill off the jerk of a husband of myMC, but that might be too easy on him. (I think I need to work on making him a more rounded char. Drat. I'd rather kill him.)
I wrote the scene where my main character revealed his firebending powers during an attack byswarm of killer beevers! Huzzah! (Although I haven't actually gotten there, timeline-wise...)
Thea has finally revealed to Chase she is his sister... but the way it happened surprised me. I had assumed she knew and had previously been lying about her identity; instead, she only suspects that Chase is her brother. And Chase doesn't believe her.
Next up: the ill-fated adventure where M'ray (the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rat, who treat Chase like an adopted son) goes off with Thea and Chase; and something Thea does winds up getting M'ray killed...

I hit my milestone of getting my characters out of the first world and into the next!
My next one...is Kila sneaking off to meet Zephir. ;)
I've had my first casualty of the NaNo season! HUZZAH.

Mine was getting my characters' communication nailed down- they can't speak or write without being observed, so yay for secret tactile codes!

Finally, FINALLY, Annie is OUT of the canyon and into the world! The plot can finally actually START now! (Whatever the plot is.) HUZZAH! HUZZAH!
Next step... she needs to get to school and buy a hat. The hat will be the next huzzah.
Huzzah!
