These prompts were collected at the Kick-off in October.People can respond to the post with how they used it in their novel. (If they used it.) Or how it caused them to look at their story in a different way.
Special prizes will be award at the TGIO for:
* Most creative use of a prompt. (But keep it PG-13.)
* Most prompts used.
* Led to the most unexpected turn in the story. (Keep it clean.)
* Most ______ (to be determined)
* And, starting on December 1st, there will be a side contest to see who can use at least half of these prompts in the shortest short story that makes some kind of sense. (Maybe we'll read them at the TGIO, or the first Journey meeting. (Journey is the year-round writing group.)
Must RSVP and be present at TGIO (Thank Goodness It's Over) party on December 7th to win a prize.
But anyone, and everyone, can try to incorporate the prompts into their writing if they wish. (Need to share uses to win prizes above--if you include two or more prompts in one writing excerpt--be sure to point that out.) And must post these by Dec. 3rd to count.
The lack of attention devoted to the action had him bumping the side of it and tipping the glass, spilling the drink over whatever papers had been scattered across the oak top of the desk. He hardly noticed, pulling his gaze away from the board just long enough to scowl a bit at the wet puddle.
Why would Roger contact my mother? He must know that she detests him. I mean, she's been pretty obvious about it. Ever since he claimed the white fish salad she served at Hanukkah had crab meat in it. I swear, you'd have thought he'd suggested something like cannibalism was going on. But she made it pretty clear how insulted she was.

I hade my doubts about this one. And don't think the phrase 'like cannibalism' will make it past the second draft, but without the prompt, I wouldn't have thought about what Roger had done that so insulted the aunt.I like the idea of his saying it had shellfish in it, not realizing that as a Jew who kept kosher, she didn't eat crab.
I've noticed that this writing prompts often help me get a specific detail into my writing.
"Wait what? I mean, well yes, but how did you hear that?" Brian asks.
"This is a performing arts college, gossip spreads like an invasive species here," I mutter, "Most likely Frannie does not even know where he heard it. He just heard it around."
Im serious, Steve. Ive had to do a lot of cleaning up for you. This is the first time youre talking to all of them and you damn well better take it seriously. Tyler was several inches shorter than Stephen, and nowhere near as thick. With a constant look of paranoia on his face and a hint of sweat at his brow, it was hard to tell if this was just a normal day for him or if he really was concerned about this meeting.
Jackson ceased struggling and stared back. You wouldnt dare.
Wouldnt I. It would give me the utmost satisfaction to personally release the airlock and watch you grasp nothing but air. That is far too quick and easy for you. In light of the extensive damage to Harmony 7 both in lives and property we deem a more appropriate sentence work on the Restitution Work Colony Botany Bay until your portion of the judgment is paid. That judgment stands at 4.7 billion Earth Common Currency. Your portion, Mr. Jackson, at minimum is twenty five percent.
Thats a life sentence.
Of course Mr. Jackson and since youve had the longevity treatment that will be a very long time. Captain Aniston said. Security remove him.
Have it your way. Jason said. I do have some disappointing news. I researched the crystal that infested the transport. According to the Interstellar Invasive Species Act the crystal fall under the interdicted category. The act specifically lists propagating fauna and/or mineral constructs. Theres no possible way of bringing that to Earth. I suggest you strap a k-null engine onto that asteroid and send into the systems sun.
Couldnt be better. Jenn said. Well invite Madame Guyon and Abukar, along with Frank and Dom, and some others. It will be perfect for a private conversation.
Sol choked on his drink and spilled it down his shirt. Oh, whos being Machiavellian now?
Sol held up his hand. Whats this? He asked pointing.
The gold wedding band I have you.
Yes, and I gave you one. When you keep rotating it around I know youre nervous. Everyone knows youre worried. You cant let people know that. No now, with things heating up.
As he did PanAfrica Petroleum. Abukar said. I am most grateful. Where is David? I expected him to attend today.
He went to his room after the christening. Sol said. Hes not well.
Did you ever find a treatment? Madam Guyon said.
Its not that. Jenn said. And no his primary condition is irreversible. A week ago we discovered hed come down with an allergic reaction to the crystals. Hes worked with them so long his system couldnt adjust to this new variety.
I need to emphasize United started losing these ships five years prior to the previous Corporate War. Frank said. In those five years United gained control of nine corporations. Not through hostile takeovers, but by purchasing them. Then they gutted all but three of those corporations leaving nothing but shells. Through highly intricate legal maneuvering these corporations remained independent. Through them United has purchased vast quantities of armaments and upgrades.
How tribal. Abukar said. So like corporate cannibalism, to devour another corporation and leave nothing but the shell. Barbaric!
You are entirely too happy about this. Jenn said. Fears driving them and you know it. Listen to this. She queued a music track and strains of eerie music filled the room. This is the sound track from a Pre Storms classic vid thriller called Pyscho. The lead realized her mistake and decided to right her wrong. But it was too late. Were running out of time. A lot of good fear will do now.
But fear finally got them to work together. Its the only thing that would. Sol said.

Spilled the drink
The lack of attention devoted to the action had him bumping the side of it and tipping the glass, spilling the drink over whatever papers had been scattered across the oak top of the desk. He hardly noticed, pulling his gaze away from the board just long enough to scowl a bit at the wet puddle.
"I think I'll stay here and listen to the music."
"It's starting to sound like the Psycho soundtrack to me. I think I'd better go to bed."

(Since I plan on not writing the last few days of the month, I'd better start doing two of these a day.)
I'm surprised at how easily most of these fit in my novel. (Of course, I did pick the prompts from over 60 that were given.) Hmmm...
Why would Roger contact my mother? He must know that she detests him. I mean, she's been pretty obvious about it. Ever since he claimed the white fish salad she served at Hanukkah had crab meat in it. I swear, you'd have thought he'd suggested something like cannibalism was going on. His hand disappears into his pocket with a flash of his gold wedding band.
The suite smelled of lilac with a hint of sweat that Isada tried not to dwell on.
Allergic Reaction
"Well, we're definitely not getting sushi," Jackson chimed in.
"What's wrong with sushi?" his mother asks.
"I'll have an allergic reaction."
"You are not allergic to sushi, Jackson, or any kind of fish, for that matter. You're only allergic to tree nuts."
"But I'm allergic to culture," he whined the final word dramatically like a child, wearing a broad grin across his face.
Day 22
Jackson by a unanimous vote this tribunal finds you and your crew guilty of piracy.
You cant do this to me. Jackson shouted, a hint of sweat on his brow.
Hint of sweat
Im serious, Steve. Ive had to do a lot of cleaning up for you. This is the first time youre talking to all of them and you damn well better take it seriously. Tyler was several inches shorter than Stephen, and nowhere near as thick. Day 25
Intrigued Sol lifted his son whom Jenn situated in a high chair. Food replicators can imitate most everything, but
Sol lifted the lid and stirred the contents, not hot fudge sundaes.
Day 26
Couldnt be better. Jenn said. Well invite Madame Guyon and Abukar, along with Frank and Dom, and some others. It will be perfect for a private conversation.

Day 28
As he did PanAfrica Petroleum. Abukar said. I am most grateful. Where is David? I expected him to attend today.
