This is the thread where you post your woes....your distractions...your what have you's...either just to vent...or maybe in hopes someone will see your trouble and give you a bit of motivation/inspiration/kick in the ass to get you going!
We ALL have moments where something prevents us from writing...major or minor illness/injury, distractions, etc...so...Don't worry, you are not alone...Just post it...sometimes getting it off your chest helps...sometimes having someone read it and then giving you a swift kick in the butt to keep you on track helps!

I definitely took a power nap this afternoon. Hopefully that will help me crank out some more words tonight. I don't usually sit down to write until about 8:30 or later and I'm just dead at that point.
And I don't drink coffee. I know. Crazy right? Today I'm planning on another 2k words (I snuck in 600 earlier today) so at least catch up won't be so bad tomorrow.
I work in IT, so I already spend all day in front of a screen. So sometimes, sitting down and working at another screen is the last thing I want to do. Going to write-ins has helped a lot. But maybe when I'm at home, I need to start keeping a paper journal to at least get started in.

I'm often up writing past midnight, but I still count it for that day because I hadn't gone to sleep. I always adjust my word count for the correct day if I update past midnight. :)
Because I've decided I hate 2 of my main character's names and now it is distracting me. I hate them, they don't work. Now I need to come up with new names and as you guys likely realize, that is HARD.
I actually use an app called "Writer's Block". It completely blocks you from doing anything except writing until you eitherwrite an amount of words you set, or the amount of time you set runs up. It's really been great for my productivity. I set it for 15-20 minutes at a time, then it gives you the option to "snooze" or save and exit. I sometimes find myself having to force myself to save and exit so I don't burn out.
Here's where you can download it. It's free and pretty easy to use, but it's very bare-bones (at least at the free level). Some of my characters' names are close to actual English words and they get autocorrected even if I don't want them too, but it's totally worth it to have a software that so easily encourages productivity.
Nooooo!!! I hate that! It happens to me all. the. time. Iam constantly getting tired of characters' names. SIGH.And figuring out another name takes foreverrrrrrr. *cries* I can so relate!
2. I'm already 20000 words behind and I've basically given up on finishing by Nov 30
3. I'm scared to start out of fear that the words I end up writing are absolute crap
4. I just realized a massiveflaw in the setting and idk how to fix it :)
5. I made the mistake of getting obsessed with TheHunchback of Notre Dame(just the animated Disney movie, haven't had the motivation to read) and now my antagonist is e x a c t ly like Claude Frollo
6. I haven't actually actively read anything for my own enjoyment in days
Edit: 7. I have 3 other stories I need to finish writing for contests and blargh
Please send assistance XD I no longer have any hope of finishing haha

at least your character HAS a name!!! I STILL can't think of one and just as a stand in until i do...he will be called Prince Meatball...he's been called that since last november nano!

1: Homework ALWAYS comes first...that's a given lol! but, one should not rush homework just to get to writing
2: NO! Don't give up!! Nano isn't about whether you win or lose, it's about writing. Writing more words than you would have written otherwise. Any start is better than no start! <3
3: So what if they are crap. Crap words are better than no words! You can always go back after nano to edit....I would rather have written 20,000 crap words than 0 words because i was too afraid of the crap words! All writers fear "crap words" but sometimes, it's those very words that keep us going because they then lead to better less crappy words that we actually like! <3
4:Tell us the flaw and i am sure myself, or others can come to your aid and offer suggestions and advice!
5: That's nothing...I read and watch way to much sailor moon and once upon a time...i've got a few characters that are almost mirror images...but...one of the writing workshops said that you can fix that by finding 2 or 3 things about that character, and changing it...in doing so, you might ultimately change the way the character thinks and acts...
6:tell yourself that after homework is done...you should write 1,000 words...and then you can treat yourself by reading a book! <3
7: Divide your time adequately, and you can do it! Even if you end nano with only 20,000K words...isn't that better than not having written any words at all! It's like drawing, the more you practice the craft, the better you get...or the better you get at learning to write regularly...even though,...some of us...THINK that works...and find that...we only become regular...at nano season LOL

Spent the entire day last Wednesday in the hospital with a family member. It was planned, so I had toyed with the idea of taking my laptop but decided against it. Good thing too, because we moved around so much it would have been just so much more to lug around.
I'm soooo tired.
Has anyone else experienced "sleep writing"? I fell asleep with my hands on the keyboard twice, and when I woke up, I had typed complete sentences, proper spacing and punctuation, reasonably good spelling, but absolutely nothing to do with the story! I'm keeping it all, since I might be able to use a little bit of it for a future plot point.
Help! I might not be able to get any writing done today because the entire right side of my right wrist/forearm hurts! ::cry:: ::cry::. It just feels sore and achey and i don't know why..and i can feel it when i type...and a google image search says it's in the area of the flexor capri ulnaris muscle...or the extensor capri ulnaris tendon...
i mean...on a scale of 1-10...with 10 being the worst pain ever...i'd rate this about a 3 or a 4...so, i can still write but...waaaah. i just want to whine about it because it hurts when i move my forearm and wrist so..i'm going to whine like a little baby

I hope everything is ok with your family. I sleep write every day. It is insane and hilarious.

The past few years my hands have gone numb while I was typing. In my case I know that it is carpal tunnel. My doctor gave me a brace to wear at night. It does help and you can buy them in most drug stores for not too much money. It is just mightily difficult to type while wearing one, but it can be done. I hope that you find some relief.

I would like to see a bit of your sleep writing. Insane and hilarious sounds like a keeper. Mine involved ordering margaritas from a bartender who did not understand, although the action in the preceding half of the sentence involved villagers confronting representatives of a silver mining company who were attempting to bulldoze their village.

This is amazing. Mine is definitely nothing as cool as that. Mine mostly involves conversations I had that day and they make no sense out of context. Once was just a jumble of words that didn't even form a sentence.
reasons I can't write at the moment: Must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. I've been nothing but a grump since this morning...and i hope that writing at the library in an hour will help

...it's the end of the term and my professor wants EVERYTHING turned in tomorrow, even though we should have until at LEAST Wednesday, and I don't have everything done and I need to write two more lessons and teach (and record myself teaching) one of them and then reflect on it. Oh, and write a summary of how two kids spell.
...it's the end of the term and my OTHER professor decided we need to make a website with pictures that link to the bios of six super awesome historical scientists, and the site I'm using is being terribly rude and I can't figure out how to make that happen. Also, I need to write a reflection about the two really abstract "labs" we did in class the other night.
...my notes for the scene I'm currently writing consist entirely of, "Make this exciting!"So helpful. So very, very helpful.
...I still need to figure out what I'm teaching my Hebrew school class this week.
...the kids at work keep acting up, so I keep having to write referrals on them. Seriously, how hard is it to get in line when I blow the whistle? We've been doing this since the end of August, people. Figure it out.
...I just HAD to go and get sick. Bad enough that it totally wrecks my momentum in the work out schedule I've been SO GOOD about keeping, but.... seriously? Why NOW????

try being a camp counselor for children from 1st grade - 5th grade...and because the camp was free through the park district, the first few weeks we had 150 kids divided between 6-8 counselors...AND the beginning, we had groups with 1st graders, thru 5th graders...so imagine snotty pre-teen 5th graders in a group with 1st graders who have the attention span of a peanut, and then 3rd graders who kind of have the attention span...kind of want to be with the young kids...but wanting to emlulate the older kids and be snotty brats.
AND this was the summer of 2012 when it was SUPER SUPER HOT in the 100's and some days, camp would be canceled....or we'd have kids who would get ill and nauseated because despite our constant reminders to stay hydrated...they'd forget
so...REMIND ME AGAIN WHY I GOT AN ECE DEGREE?!

i can't get any writing done because my house is super super old...and has NO insulation what so ever except for the remodeled bathroom that was gutted to the studs.
my office gets ice cold. the same office i write in. so cold that the shivering makes my back ache very badly.
the only warm place to write is in the bathroom :( but, that doesn't help when you only have 1 and someone is using it

I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end.Just make it a good one, eh?
I can't get any writing done because I am trapped in a scene where NOTHING HAPPENS. Really. There is absolutely no plot in this scene. They are just moving from point A to point B. This is the kind of scene that should really just be glossed over with a sentence or two. EXCEPT, that they get from point A to point B by jumping back and forth between layers of reality, so they started in Anytown, USA, and then they went to some prairie-type place by walking through a waterfall, and then they jumped in a creek and landed in Alaska, where they made a hole in the air that led them to some tropical jungle, where they are now. I still need to get them from the jungle to a random desert in Arizona-ish, and from THERE they can magically jump to their final destination. And THEN, maybe, the story can actually BEGIN. And yes, the fact that they are jumping between layers of reality IS relevant to the plot, but.... oyyyy..... Why couldn't I just charter a private plane for them or something?...
-mentally exhausted...almost near burn out...so i have not written the last 2 days or so...so i am behind and ugh i don't want to write 3k today to catch up! I told myself that i can't eat my sushi until i write 1k...so..that's a little incentive

Be thankful you're ONLY four days behind. I'm... I think 14 days behind? Ish?
Also, if heat doesn't work, try ice. Heat CAN be very helpful with pain reduction, but if your back is inflamed, heat will actually INCREASE the inflammation, or in other words, make it hurt MORE. Ice, on the other hand, reduces inflammation.

I can't get any writing done because:
Twitter | Instagram | Ravelry
A few issues:
1. homework
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
I can't get any writing done because...
I'm just not motivated this year.
After 7 years of wins, I think I'm going to take a break. I'm still writing, which is the whole point of NaNo, but I won't be aiming for that 50k.
Not giving up.
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
I hope everything is ok with your family.
I sleep write every day. It is insane and hilarious.
Feel better!
I am beginning to think i may have slept funny on my wrist...i took advil and it did nothing. these joints never used to hurt when i was a kid! urgh...joys of getting older lol!
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
That is the worst. I hate knowing I did something that even 2 years ago never would have hurt me.

Quote PBJ63010: I sleep write every day. It is insane and hilarious.
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
I can't write because.....
...it's the end of the term and my professor wants EVERYTHING turned in tomorrow, even though we should have until at LEAST Wednesday, and I don't have everything done and I need to write two more lessons and teach (and record myself teaching) one of them and then reflect on it.
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
i can't get any writing done because my house is super super old...and has NO insulation what so ever except for the remodeled bathroom that was gutted to the studs.
my office gets ice cold. the same office i write in. so cold that the shivering makes my back ache very badly.
the only warm place to write is in the bathroom :( but, that doesn't help when you only have 1 and someone is using it
I also can't write because i am too busy laughing my ass off because my mom said: "I was here last week for 4 days and this week for 5 days and you aren't done with your book yet?!?!?!?! i thought you'd be done by now"
I LAUGHED SO HARD...SOOOOOOO EFFING HARD! oohhhhhh mother ah ha ha ha ha...that's funny, mom....you naive little non writer
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
I might be tempted to participate in some physical violence.
every time someone makes a comment like that i look at them with a raised eye brow like "you're joking, right?????"
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
No kidding.
But I mean really, you are going to finish tonight right? ;) It can't take that long to write a book.
hahahahahahaha (Says the girl who has been working on one book on and off for over 5 years.)
My mom is retired now...supposedly...and i told her to add "writing a book" to her bucket list...THEN MAYBE SHE WILL UNDERSTAND!
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
Perhaps you've just solved your own problem there? Perhaps have a plane or a bus or something come popping out of a hole in the sky and pick them up?
I can't get any writing done because:
-mentally exhausted...almost near burn out...so i have not written the last 2 days or so...so i am behind and ugh i don't want to write 3k today to catch up! I told myself that i can't eat my sushi until i write 1k...so..that's a little incentive
-I am LACTOSE INTOLERANT....and....i had tacos...with cheese last night. Feel freel to look up symptoms if you want...but i needn't discuss that TMI stuff here....but either way...UGH MY STOMACH
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
At the risk of sounding *totally gross* maybe you could include that in your story. A lactose intolerant character who eats cheese tacos, I mean. Hey, can I use that if you don't?
Ahem. Ok, I'll go away now.
I totally could! it would be easy to write as...well, i can speak from my own... "crappy" experience...pun intended XD
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
Can't get caught up and write because:
getting older means that i either threw out my back or it's stress...but a hot hot HOT shower and then a heat pad didn't really help...nor did advil.I HATE GETTING OLD
ugh...and tomorrow means thanksgiving...unlikely that i'll get any writing done THEN...
i am 4 days behind!
I'll be a story in your head. But that's OK:We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?
Be thankful you're ONLY four days behind. I'm... I think 14 days behind? Ish?
Also, if heat doesn't work, try ice. Heat CAN be very helpful with pain reduction, but if your back is inflamed, heat will actually INCREASE the inflammation, or in other words, make it hurt MORE. Ice, on the other hand, reduces inflammation.
Because I went Black Friday shopping all night and a good portion of today so now I keep falling asleep.
