Saturday, Nov 13th is “Back-Up Your Novel Day.” I can’t tell you how many emails I get from people who lost their novels and are wondering if we have copies of them. Of course we don’t, so that’s why we always encourage people to back them up on a separate computer or hard drive! One very good option is dropbox–they give you 2Gb free online storage and it is very easy to use them (it’s just a folder that syncs automatically with their cloud resource). Strongly recommended.
Wednesday, Nov 17th is Donation Day. NaNoWriMo does a ton of fundraising on this day. They’re hoping to make $100,000 this year! So, keep this day in mind and consider helping out.
NaNoWriMo is going to turn off the regional notifications. This seems to be causing a lot of the site slowness. They’re hoping that this will be temporary, but for now know that you will need to check the forums, because you won’t receive automatic emails from the site.
Also make sure you update your timezone settings on the nanowrimo.org site; this could otherwise cost you an hour this month.
